Drop and Drag - The Jitter

febster's picture

Hey there.

Here's something, although quite minor, would add to an increased smooth and elegant user experience if fixed.

The issue is with the drop and drag element. I'm using it within a course presentation on WP.

Essentially, after you drag you item to its target, and then click 'check'...you immediately get a jitter of the drop and drag element on the screen - a minor jerky shift back and forth.

Again, I know this is not a big issue, but after creating loads of drop and drag elements, I think if fixed would provide a slightly more elegant experience for the end user. Anything jerky naturally decreases the sense of elegance in the process.

Here's the details of the issue as experienced on WP: https://screencast.com/t/RRSJPy19GCz

Thanks again guys for all your hard work and excitement about H5P. I count it a priviledge to be a part of the community and help make H5P even better.

Hi Timothy, and thank you for your dedication to fixing this issue.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to reproduce the issue on my computer. What browser and operating system are you using, and are you still able to see this issue if you try it on another computer and browser?
I don't see the issue in the video either, but that could be due to a low frame rate in the capture.

This could be related to the specific computer/graphics cards for some reason.
Are you able to share a link to the content?

Many thanks for getting back. Sorry for the slow reponse.

Yes, I checked it on three different browers (Safari, Chrome and Firefox). The jitter is there and persists. You can perhaps check it here on a test page I just set up: http://www.chinesebuddy.com/jitter/

Anyhow, I use a macbook pro from 2014 .6 GHz Intel Core i5 Intel Iris 1536 MB

I think it should be good enough...Anyhow, let me know if you can see it on your machine.

Hi Timothy,

I think the jitter comes from the scroll bar being added. It causes both a vertical jitter due to the retry button being added on the bottom but also a horizontal jitter due to the scrollbar itself taking up some space.

Perhaps you could reduce the width of the task (which would also reduce the height). But I definitely agree, there should be a much smoother way of handling resizing content types.

Cheers, thanks for the response. Yes, the work around indeed works!
