Advanced fill the blanks
Primary tabs
A free HTML5 based question type that allows creating fill in the blanks tasks with advanced feedback and 'drop-down' mode in publishing systems like Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle and WordPress.

Description
Learners fill in the missing words in a text or choose the correct answer from a drop-down menu. For each blank, the learners are told if the entered answer is correct. If an answer is incorrect, an individual feedback text is shown for the exact mistake they've made and their attention is drawn to relevant parts of the text. If they only make a minor mistake, they get a warning message telling them what the exact problem is.
Authors enter text and mark blanks with ____. The correct answers, incorrect answers, and the respective feedback texts are then entered in another section below. Authors can also mark parts of the text as 'highlight sections' by surrounding them with !!. They can then reference these highlight sections when they enter the feedback texts for incorrect answers.
'Advanced Fill in the Blanks's is most useful in second language learning, where you can give the users individual hints, why certain tenses or word forms can't be used in this case. While it is possible to have a 'Check' button at the bottom of the exercise and give feedback for all blanks at once, it makes more sense to enable the auto-check setting as the user is guided through the 'fill the blanks' exercise step by step.
If you don't want to use individual feedback or 'drop-down' mode, the regular 'Fill in the Blanks' content type is easier to use and might be the better choice.

Hi elegram,
Not yet there are still some additions to the code before you can use it in Course Presentation. I suggest that you post the request directly to the developer of the content Sebastian in his github repository.

When will this be available in the "questions set" activity?
Hi there!
I understand that this is not really available yet, am I correct? Any idea as of when will the advanced fill in the blanks activity be available within the "Questions set" activity on Moodle?
Thanks!

Hi Sergio,
Same answer as above there needs to be some codes to be added to both Question Set and Advanced Blanks for this to happen.

Great tool ! Very powerful addition to H5P content types !
Very powerful tool for learners with precise feedback and many options to choose from !
One minor drawback : the UIX is not very friendly ; the process to create / edit an activity, with the editor on the admin side, is not really fluid.
Nonetheless : thanks for this precious tool ! H5P is getting better and better :)

Great that the content type
Great that the content type is of use! I understand that it can be a bit tedious to fill out the nested forms. Especially having to scroll up all the time to check what the text says is annoying. I solve this by having the text in a text editor in a separate window. That way I can edit text and blanks at the same time. When I'm done I simply copy the text into the text field at the top.
The reason why this is like this is that I wanted to avoid crazy markup like the Moodle Quiz module has. I think that nested forms are still much easier to use for the novice than markup (which becomes complex and long very quickly). The best solution would obviously be to have fancy inline objects in the text editor, but this is pretty complex to implement. If I find the time, it's on my list, though.

Great addition
Hi
This is a great looking tool. I am looking forward to see if I can apply it to a few unique use cases that I have. I would like to be able to use the tool to give feedback focused more on what is incorrect, using the "incorrect answer" functionality and I would like to make any answer given correct UNLESS it is flagged in the incorrect answer rules.
Is that possible? If so how do I set that up?

Hi Tim,
This is not possible at the moment unfortunately. I've added it to my TODO list and you can follow its progress here: https://github.com/sr258/h5p-advanced-blanks/issues/2 I'm a bit busy with the final examinations at my school right now, so I don't expect to have time for this until July.

Cannot upload new content
Hi
This is a great addition and I just used it to create a 55 fill in the blanks set of questions with the dropdowns. Unfortunately when I back it up and then upload it reverts to the original example and does not use the new content Hope that can be fixed unless I need to change something else in the file. I built it off of the example.
Many thanks for doing this.

Hi Andy,
Sorry about the problem! Are you able to downlod the file as an h5p file? The version of Image in the library is indeed 1.0 at the moment, it can be updated easily, however. If you send me the H5P to sebastian dot rettig at melanchthon-gymnasium dot de I will try to fix the issue for you. The problem might be more general, however: the Advanced Blanks package here doesn't include the image library and uses version 1.0. It just assumes it will be present. If you don't have this library on your moodle instalaltion, this will probably cause the issue. I will send an updated release to Joubel soon to fix the problem. In the meantime I'll try to resolve the issue for you manually.

Not yet available?
I tried to find it in my recently installed test site but it was not available. I ended up importing the sample text but that does not seem to include the description and instructions like I see when I try it out here. When I read other comments, this is apparently not the way to import it.
When I go to the github site I see the build instructions. Would that result in a correct importable file in the h5p format?

Advance fill in the blanks does not have any description in it when picking it from the hub. If you downloaded and uploaded the content to your site it should work the same way as what is in H5P.org.
