Recent changes (Difference H5P.Org and H5P.Com)?

I have been using H5P.org for a year to crete content for our e-learning platform. There was always a pink button 'Create Content' in the Quick LInks under 'My Account'. I haven't used H5P in about a month. I just used it this morning, and this pink button now says 'Try out H5P' instead. I created content as usual. When I went to click on the embed link, there is now a warning message before that H5P.org is only for trying out, and it shoudl not be used to embed - H5P.com should be used. This message is new - not sure to understand. (I embedded the link on our platform as usual, and it seems to work, but this message worries me!) Can someone offer any words of wisdom? I really don't want to think that a year of content creation may no longer work on our platform...

Hi,

H5P.org is meant to be an avenue to test H5P and the goal of the project has always been to either users hosts their contents using one of the 3 supported frameworks or sign up for H5P.com. However a lot of the members of the community started using it in an actual learning scenario and the core team has recognized that there are a lot of production quality contents created in H5P.org. There are plans to eventually turn off embedding as well are authoring in H5P.org but this will not affect existing content. This means that the content you created this morning should still work and be possible to embed going forward.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I assume this means that it is best to sign up for an account on H5P.com and continue creating content from that platform? Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Yes that is the best option since you don't need to worry about hosting your site. H5P.com takes care of hosting it as well as having a larger upload limit.

Will materials from .org be transferred over to .com if we create an account? I want to be able to edit what I've made on .org.

Hi,

Currently this is not yet possible. You would still need to manually download and upload the contents from .org to .com. There is however some plans in creating a more efficient way of moving contents although it is not due this year.

The automated migration from .org to .com is scheduled for this summer, not next year :)

Hi!

There has been a prominent message above the editor whenever you created new content for a long time. It reads:

H5P.org provides a free service for trying out H5P before installing it on your own site or signing up for H5P.com. Be aware that all test content created on H5P.org is publicly available.

Also, the changes there were to come were addressed over half a year ago.

Cheers,
Oliver
